BEHIND THE MUSIC OF RORY CAMPBELL

                                        Finding Melody in the Chaos

Hi!

Firstly welcome to my site.

If you are here, chances are you are as passionate about music as I am and if not, hopefully you'll leave feeling inspired and in a better mood.

I am a guitarist, singer and producer residing in sunny Perth Western Australia and studying at SAE Northbridge doing a bachelor of Audio. I love music and I'm constantly tinkering away at a solo, chorus, verse etc.

So how do I go about creating?

Easy! I plug in a iRig HD into my MacBook Air and write songs through Logic Pro X. iRig HD is a digital interface that converts yours acoustic signal (sound of the guitar) to a digital signal so it can be processed in Logic (your DAW or Digital Audio interface). Then in Logic I write to a click track, throw down a drum loop and start layering my guitar parts. Soon i'll have a rough sketch of a song down and if I'm lucky, inspiration will strike and it will be completed quickly.

If you're wondering why I went into this, its because I had no idea how to write music growing up and I wish someone shared their secrets with me. I thought we had to all be John Lennon and write with an acoustic guitar and a note pad. That's not me and if it is you, congratulations, you have an amazing and unique gift!

What I'm trying to say is there are no write or wrong ways to do this, what's works for you is the right way.

You'll find demos of my work on the main page, it should give you a good idea of the style of music I enjoy creating (guitars, guitars and more guitars!). I'm fond of a guitar solo, applying reverb, big drums and moody instrumental passages. My music is a bit alternative/poppy/proggy etc. Its my dream to make the music thats a hybrid of Tool and Cyndi Lauper.

I also mix using Pro Tools. I highly recommend you use Pro Tools as its plug ins are superior to Logic and its the industry standard for DAWs (so if you want to work in a creative field, this is what you must use).

Keep an eye on my blog for recording updates and advice. I'll also show you in detail how some of my songs are created and detail the recording process for artists I'm working with.

Any questions feel free to email me.

I hope this website inspires you on your own creative journey.
